I. Miranda

I was born in a land far away
But I do not remember it now
Gentle tides landed us here
And just look at the treasure we found
This island's my home and my playmate
And the breeze whispers songs in my ear
I'm pulled by some faraway voices:
"Miranda, Miranda, come near..."
Clear skies above me, white sand below
And the water, smooth glass all around
Bare are my feet as I trip through the surf
The salt in my hair like a crown
On the island
Comes a ship, and the skies quickly change
Clouds open and torrents pour down
"Father, please," I beg and I cry -
Without help they will all surely drown
This island is cruel, and it's dangerous
The winds scream, and they ravage the ears
The boat is torn all into pieces
The full crew's destruction I fear
Storm clouds above me, white sand below
And the waves, how they crash all around
A man (such a man!) is washed up on the beach
In him, precious riches abound
Like the island
I believe him a spirit at first
But he tells me his name - Ferdinand
I would wish no one better than he
I offer my heart and my hand
My father's old heartaches are mended
And over the waters we fly
The shore disappears in the distance
"Miranda, Miranda, goodbye..."
Rafters above me, marble below
And a wondrous new world all around
Ring on my finger, shoes on my feet
I've traded the waves for a crown
Far from the island
